Questions

At EYESPY we proofread and copyedit all sorts of documents, but our major fields of work are:

     ACADEMIC:

  • student essays
  • excerpts from your thesis
  • scientific papers
     BUSINESS:
  • newsletters
  • articles
  • web pages
  • brochures and advertisements
  • letters (business or personal)

What is proofreading?

Proofreading involves the final checking of a finished document to ensure that it is free from errors in:

  • spelling
  • punctuation
  • grammar
  • sentence structure
  • basic formatting

What is copyediting?

Copyediting is more pro-active than proofreading.  It involves more extensive scrutiny of grammar, wording, paragraph and sentence structure, and also examines the continuity and flow of the subject matter.  The actual content of your document remains unchanged, which is especially important when correcting student essays and legal documents.

Most documents require both copyediting and proofreading.  After all, once something is copyedited properly it is then proofread as a final step.  In turn, anything that is proofread is also checked to make sure that further copyediting is not necessary, and so on.  At EYESPY we charge the same low rate, regardless of whether you require copyediting and/or proofreading.

When we correct your documents, we refer to the Australian Macquarie Dictionary and, if necessary, the latest edition of the Style Manual for Authors and Editors.  This ensures that your document is corrected in Australian English, in accordance with the procedures accepted in Australia today.

Please note that at EYESPY we do not add facts, sort through references nor comprehensively re-write your work.  In addition, EYESPY will not proofread or copyedit any student document receiving an English assessment (such as an English essay), as this would be unethical.
